Development over trophies
Our philosophy
Sawmill exists for one reason: to give players a reason to keep playing after their spring season ends. We measure a good summer by whether a kid's swing, arm, and confidence are further along in August than they were in June — not by a bracket on a wall. Coaches teach, umpires teach, and scores are a detail, not the point.
This is a developmental league, explicitly and unapologetically. We are not a travel program, a showcase circuit, or a path to elite rankings. We are a place for players who love the game and want more of it.
Why wood bats
Wood teaches honesty. A ball hit off the end of the bat feels different, sounds different, and travels different than one hit on the barrel — and that feedback builds better swings faster than any drill. It also slows the game down to the pace it's meant to be played at: patient, deliberate, and a little bit humbling.
Where the name comes from
Cle Elum and Roslyn were built on timber, and the Sawmill name honors that heritage. A mill doesn't rush the wood — it works with the grain, cuts with patience, and builds something meant to last. That's the same approach we take with a young ballplayer.
Who it's for
Sawmill is built for 9U–12U players from any Little League, Cal Ripken, PONY, or community program in the Upper Kittitas Valley and beyond who want a low-pressure, high-repetition summer of real baseball. Every member organization — every town, every program — is treated equally: same rules, same field access, same respect, regardless of size or history.
All member organizations compete, schedule, and are represented on equal footing — no organization receives preferential treatment.
Season dates
The 2027 Sawmill Baseball League season begins on Saturday, June 12, the second Saturday in June. The eight-week regular season runs through July 31, followed by championship tournament weekends on August 7–8 and August 14–15. The season concludes on August 15.
Registration & fees
Team registration: $3,275. Individual player registration: $550.
Players may register individually without joining as part of a complete team. Individual registrants will be placed into league-formed teams when enough players are available to create a viable roster. This option is ideal for pickup players and families who want to participate but do not currently have a full team — team formation depends on sufficient registration numbers each season.
